Some Free Plumbing Tips

If your metered water bill rises suddenly, then you could have a leak between your water meter and your premises. This is likely to be on your own land and will need to be fixed quickly. Be sure to call us as soon as possible.

A leaking outside tap can also cause your water bill to rise, but it can also ruin your garden. Luckily, it is easy to fix. Sometimes, all that is needed is to tighten the ‘packing or gland nut’ which is just under the tap. If that does not fix it, you will need to replace the actual washer. This will mean turning the mains water off, dismantling the tap and fitting a new washer. If its too much trouble – we are here to help!

Similarly, a leaking stop tap could be a reason your bills are rising, and as they are normally inside the house, could be causing a lot of damp and damage. You do however have two of these. One as mentioned (normally) on your premises, the other usually being outside your property. Any faults with the latter are the responsibility of your water supplier. But if the internal one is leaking, then that is your problem. Sometimes, as with outside taps, all it takes is to tighten the gland nut, but otherwise, unless you are really good at plumbing and DIY, I would call in the experts as it can be quite a tricky job.
